Participation Information and Form

Welcome! NALWO is excited that your child(ren) is(are) considering participating in the upcoming Fermilab Children's Art Exhibit that will coincide with DASTOW (Daughters and Sons to Work) on Friday, June 21, 2013! Below you will find information and guidelines on submitting artwork, as well as, the required sign-up form. We look forward to a successful Art Exhibit and should you have any questions not covered, below, please email: childrensart@fnal.gov

Why a children of Fermilab art exhibit?
Why not! Children constantly come home with art work from school throughout the year and may even work on creative projects at home. Here is a chance for your child(ren) to share their creative talents with our lab community. DASTOW is the perfect opportunity to offer such a show as children can not only see their artwork on display, but also view the work of their peers and perhaps be further inspired in their own artistic endeavors.

Who is eligible to participate?
All children of lab employees and lab users, through 12th grade as of Spring 2013.

What type of art can be submitted?
Works of art that are either flat or dimensional. Art can be anything from {original} drawings, paintings and sketches to {original} wood carvings, clay and ceramic sculptures, Lego creations, etc. For example, perhaps your child loves to build with Legos. One can buy sets in the store, but maybe your child has spent several hours creating an original piece that he/she is very proud of - that would be an excellent piece that can be submitted and displayed at this Children's Art Exhibit. You will be asked to record the dimensions of any piece submitted in the form, below, to ensure proper displaying space.

How many pieces of art can be submitted?
One work of art PER child.

What is the maximum size allowed for a piece of art?
In order to ensure display space enough for each participant, a painting or drawing should be no larger than approximately 18" x 20". For 3D/sculptured art, no larger than approximately 18" x 18" x 18".

Will there be prizes?
Art will NOT be judged, and so there will not be prizes. However, NALWO will provide each participant with a small "participation gift" as a "thank you" for participating and helping promote this event.

How will art be organized?
Once all of the requests for submission are received each piece submitted will receive a number that will be emailed to the email address provided with the initial request. The assigned number should be written on the back of the respective artwork for easy identification when hanging/displaying and checking-out.

Where and when should artwork be brought to the lab?
Art will be displayed on boards and tables in the Wilson Hall Atrium on the northeast side near to the Communications Office. The boards and tables will be put in place on Thursday, June 20, 2013 and between 2 and 5 p.m. parents will have the opportunity to bring and place their child(ren)s artwork. Volunteers will be available during that time to assist with displaying. Alternatively, you may also bring artwork in on the morning of DASTOW between 7:45 and 8:15 a.m. There will be a lot happening on the Friday morning of DASTOW, so bringing in the art on Thursday afternoon is preferred and strongly encouraged.

When should artwork be taken down and when will the participation gift be given?
DASTOW ends at 12:30 p.m. on the 21st, so artwork should be taken down at the close of DASTOW. Once you have gathered your child(ren)s art, a volunteer will check you out and provide your child(ren) with their participation gift. Volunteers will be available for checkout between 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.

When is the deadline for submitting the below participation form?

In order to ensure NALWO has enough display space and participation gifts, the below form needs be filled out no later than 11:59 p.m. CST on Friday, June 7th, 2013. Please note that for organizational purposes and ensuring the correct number of participation gifts no late entries will be accepted. Thank you for your understanding.
